Hp g60 screen problems

I have a hp g60 on boot the screen goes black then white with pink and coloured lines. I've tested it on external monitor and i get video I've replaced the ribbon cable to the screen but the problem remains I was able to briefly see the windows login screen but very dark and faded. It then went white again I'm hoping it's just the inverter but I'm thinking I'm going to have to replace the screen. I don't have must experience working with screen hardware so I wanted some input before replacing the lcd.
