32bit windows can go up to 3gig maximum....however the motherboard dictates what kind or ram it uses and goes upto, consult the manual for the motherboard you own.
A 64bit version can handle anything upto 128gig currently although most motherboards limit to 16gig or 6gig if DDR3 based.

I refer the same answer....every motherboard dictates its own maximum....the only way to find out is to check the motherboard manual or makers website. regardless what the motherboard maximum is the OS you are using will also impose restrictions of how much ram it can use....example 4gig on a 32bit Windows will only use 3gig, because 32bit cannot access ram above that size no matter what you do. And IF you want to use 64bit versions of windows you need 64bit CPU as well.
Pentium 4 & P4-D including P4-D Dual cores are NOT 64bit CPUs only Xeon, Core2, or I5/I7 ones are from Intel....as for AMD theres AMD64's and Opteron I think as well as the new Phenom mk1 and 2 which are also 64bit.
