Laptop will only boot properly if HDMI is plugged into tv

so my laptop... asus g750 series.... runs just fine, except when it is restarted; it does not boot unless there is an hdmi cord plugged into a tv. its just black screen in some kind of a waiting point if it isn't plugged into a tv. once plugged into a tv and tap the power button (goes into sleep mode) press power button (to turn on) BOOM the computer boots up on the tv first, then it recognizes the laptop screen as primary and switches (it seems like).... it isn't CRUCIAL, but its very annoying that i cant figure it out!!!!! someone.... anyone.... please help me, i have lost all tech respect for myself....
