There are a few ways to transfer data from a smart phone to a PC. The most popular one is to connect the phone and the laptop with a USB cable. The one you use to charge the phone should work. The phone should be recognized automatically and should appear as a different volume in My Computer.
Another option is to use a SD card. Insert it in the phone, copy all data you need to the card and then connect it to the PC. Once again, the card should appear as an independent volume and should be accessible like any other partition.
