XP problem It starts at Owner, loads & saves

Hello,
While running a virus scan, I kept getting popups saying that various programs wanted to load and I disallowed some permanently. Now I can't start Windows XP. It goes to a screen with owner (which I never had before) and when I start it, it says loading preferences, then goes to my normal desktop for a second, but there are no icons, then it goes back to the screen with owner and says saving preferences and the only option is shut down. I have an Emachines D2880, but I haven't been able to find my restore CD. I do have one from an Emachines T2692. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
