Tower to tv vga cable

Hello, I have an old Dell Dimension that has no monitor but I have a tv that has vga display hookup which is the same as the towers display port but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get the tower to display on the tv and yes the tower works and no there isn't a problem with the display port on either the tv or the tower can anyone help me

Did you set the "source" on the TV to VGA (or perhaps Aux)?

I have tried every setting on the tv and haven't found out what i am doing wrong
