My windows xp is not recognising my headphones

My windows xp desktop will not recognize my headphones no matter what I do. I recently had to re-install windows, so I had to re-install all my drivers, but I cant seem to get the audio working. I try to boot up a game and it says "No sound devices detected". It worked before I reinstalled windows. I have a Gateway 820gm.

So, you re-installed XP? There was about 5 years of updates on the machine that WAS built, and no it has NO UPDATES! There is nothing you can do, but identify what sound device you have, and go to that manufacturers web site and see if they still have XP driver available. I will guess not, as support for XP ended over 2 years ago!
