Adobe Flash Player won't install on my mac

i am able to get the install flash player icon on my mac osx 4.11. When i double click the folder pops up with the unopened Adobe flash player package, but when i click on that i get a quicktime error "movie cannot be opened Mac OS error -1409". What the heck? I have no idea why it's trying to open it in quick time and i have no clue what other program to open it with. help please!
