Disable my security to download adobe flash

Hello,
whilst not being a great admirer of adobe flash, on many occasions i am told 'this site wants you to download flash...... click here if you agree'
whn i do the page locks up and the only way i can restore is to Ctrl/Alt/Del.
i am on windows xp and have Stopzilla and AVG security.
when i try to download flash from its site i get told to disable my security.
how do i do this please?
