Restore factory setting

Hello,
i have a windows xp laptop, it has a lot of stuff on it i dont want. what i would like to do is erase all of it but what origanally comes the xp then start all over again. how could i do that. I dont have a windows disk or n e thing but i really need to get that stuff off there. it slows my computer down and it could crash also. i have a 40 gb labtop and i have narrowed the stuff down to 22 gb but i dont know what to get rid out of now. I have an HP Pavillion and i just want to resstore it to when i originally bought it. nothing but microsoft word, excell, powerpoint, windows media player and so on. just the basic stuff. Please help...

You can try to hit F11 (or F12?) before Windows boots. This should give you a series of Windows where you can
1. create a CD with the backup image for future use.
2. start the restore process.

I this doesn't work you can order a restore CD from HP at this US address (outside the US you will need to find another site)
