Netflix Victim of Hack: Movies and Entire Episodes Leaked Before Their Release

A serious leak from the streaming giant has put some of its most anticipated releases online.

Major production companies must constantly fight against the piracy of their works, especially when they are in the post-production stage. Despite investing millions of dollars each year to protect themselves, they sometimes suffer attacks from cybercriminals or even from employees who find sensitive information and decide to leak it online.

The latter seems to have happened to Netflix Animation in recent days. All indications suggest that it has been the victim of the theft of several movies and series episodes.

How do we know? Well, files for highly anticipated series and movies are currently circulating on the internet, including the second season of "Arcane" and the new series "Terminator Zero." Skydance Animation's main film, "Spellbound," is also part of this leak.

Some fragments of these and other productions have begun appearing on social networks, particularly on X, where controls and censorship are less stringent. In addition, because long-form multimedia material can be uploaded, X has become the ideal platform for hackers and other users to share this pirated content. Other means by which these watermarked and low-quality videos are being shared include the 4chan forums and the Nyaa Torrents site. It's not just new content aimed at North American audiences: several anime series have also been leaked, such as the remake of "Ranma ½" and "Dandadan," as well as a Japanese psychological horror film tentatively known as "Mononoke the Movie: Phantom in the Rain."

In some cases, it's not just small fragments of the series that have been leaked. For example, in the case of "Terminator Zero," all episodes have been published, even on torrent download platforms.

This leak appears to have originated from one of the production and distribution companies that collaborate with the streaming giant. It is not yet known how much this leak could cost these companies, especially since these are some of the most anticipated titles of the second half of the year. For now, Netflix says it is taking steps to remove all images and videos related to this leak.
