Here's How To Activate This Hidden Wi-Fi Feature for Faster Internet

Did you know that smartphones and tablets come with hidden settings to boost Wi-Fi speed?

Few people know that smartphones and tablets come with hidden options that can improve your Wi-Fi connection. While most of us just connect to a network and leave it at that, adjusting a few advanced options can significantly improve your internet experience. Typically, we focus on using apps or making basic security settings, overlooking these additional features that can fine-tune connection quality and save battery. Here's how you can optimize your Wi-Fi by unlocking these hidden settings.

Many devices, including tablets, allow you to adjust settings to speed up your internet. To optimize your connection, start by accessing the hidden WLAN settings menu.

For Android Users:

  1. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the three dots, and select Smart Wi-Fi.
  2. On the next screen, locate the current firmware version (e.g., 6.0.0) and tap it 5–10 times.
  3. This will unlock a new option in the menu called Connectivity Labs.

Within Connectivity Labs, you'll see:

  • Network history and passwords: Check the networks you've previously connected to, along with their saved passwords.
  • Connection quality stats: Monitor Wi-Fi performance and analyze daily data to see if the network consistently meets your needs.
  • Home WLAN inspection: Test signal strength in different rooms to locate any weak spots.
  • Battery-saving scan settings: Go to Developer Options to change the WLAN scanning interval. Lower scan frequency can help extend battery life, especially in areas with a strong, stable signal.

For iPhone and iPad Users:

Apple devices also have hidden network options.

  1. To access them, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
  2. On the network selection screen, press and hold the side button for a few seconds, then tap the information button next to your network name.

In this menu, you can:

  • Adjust IP and DNS settings: Changing your DNS to Google's public DNS (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare's (1.1.1.1) may boost speed.
  • Set an HTTP Proxy: Configuring an HTTP proxy can provide privacy for secure browsing or accessing restricted sites on public networks.
