New iOS Feature: AirTag Can Now Share Location with Airlines

In the latest version of iOS, AirTag users have gained a valuable feature that helps locate lost luggage.

Have you ever lost your luggage during a trip? Well, hopefully, there soon will be a solution to find it quickly. Apple has released the second beta of iOS 18.2, which includes several new features and updates for iPhone users. Among these, a notable innovation for AirTag owners allows them to share the location of lost items, making it easier to find misplaced belongings.

AirTag, Apple's tracking device, is designed to help locate personal items like keys, bags, clothing, electronics, and even vehicles. Soon, users will be able to share the location of their AirTagged items, enabling others—like airlines—to assist in locating lost items, such as luggage.

To share a lost item's location, users can generate a link and send it to another person or business with just a few clicks. The recipient can open this link online, even without an Apple device. Users can also choose to include contact information so finders can reach out directly.

This new feature highlights Apple's ongoing commitment to improving user experiences by enhancing its device ecosystem. By adding features that cater to practical, everyday needs—like locating lost items and making assistance accessible—Apple continues to position its products as essential tools in users' daily lives.

Apple explains that users will be able to temporarily share the location of their belongings with airlines to expedite locating lost luggage: "Get help locating your lost item by sharing its location with the airline or a trusted person," Apple states.

Currently, only developers can test this new feature, but it will gradually roll out to all users in the coming days. Other new features in iOS 18.2 include ChatGPT integration with Siri and the ability to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus directly in the Settings app. The ChatGPT page in Settings now also displays detailed information on ChatGPT usage.

Additionally, in the Notes app, when selecting text, a new "Create Image" option appears in the Copy/Paste menu. This option effectively uses the Image Playground tool to generate an image based on the selected text.
