Replace Google Search with ChatGPT Using This Simple Trick
Many claim that search results from ChatGPT are better than traditional searches, and now there's an easy way to test it out.
The first version of ChatGPT, available on OpenAI's website, quickly changed how people search for information online. Now, OpenAI is taking it a step further with a new tool called ChatGPT Search, announced on October 31. This tool blends the conversational style of AI chatbots with the structure of traditional search engines, making it easier and more interactive to find information online.
As OpenAI explains, "ChatGPT can now search the web much more efficiently than before, providing quick, timely answers with links to relevant sources, which used to require visiting a search engine." To make it even simpler to use, OpenAI has released a browser extension that replaces Google search with ChatGPT search directly in the address bar.
Once installed, users can type search terms as usual, but the results will come from ChatGPT, often offering more detailed and specific answers than Google. With ChatGPT Search's conversational format, users can ask follow up questions and dig deeper into topics, which is especially helpful for complex questions or when looking for more personalized information.
The extension includes settings for users to filter content and adjust search preferences. OpenAI has also added real-time data updates to keep responses current, making ChatGPT a solid choice for finding up-to-date information.
With over 200,000 users already, the Chrome extension is currently available only to ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers, as well as those on OpenAI's waitlist. However, OpenAI has plans to make ChatGPT Search available to free users in the coming months.
In response, Google has developed a competing feature called AI Overview, which provides AI generated responses in a chat style interface. AI Overview is currently unavailable in EU countries due to regulatory compliance with data privacy and security standards. With both OpenAI and Google moving towards AI enhanced search solutions, it's clear that a more interactive and intuitive web search experience is on the horizon, one that's more like a conversation than a query.
