How do I unlock the touch pad on my HP laptop when double clicking the touch pad does not work? Is there an alternate method?

Is there a LIGHT on in the upper left hand corner of the touchpad?

I was double clicking. It turned out that double "tapping" was the solution. Thank you for your time ~
