Trying for days to verify fb acct!

I have been trying in vain for days to log in to my fb account.
When I try to sign in I get the message to secure my account.
I click on the "get started" button, then continue on the next screen.
I am then asked to change my password, then after I choose a new password and click continue, I get a screen saying "connection lost" and "tap to retry". But when I tap the screen it just turns blue. Help please!
I have included screen shots to show what I am seeing.
I have tried several times with my mobile phone, as well as trying on 3 additional cell phones with the same maddening results.

Instead of the "connection lost" screen, I have occasionally received this error screen instead, shown in the screen shot below:
