However, Facebook main source of income is advertising. Facebook's algorithms will direct advertising to your account according to the data you have yourself entered. For instance, if for instance you say that you are ill, or that you are from Australia and claim to have seen a dropbear, you may get an add from Kraft's Vegemite.
(Dropbears detest Vegemite and will scare them away)
