Lap top to printer wireless

Hello,
Im tring to connect my laptop to my printer that is connected to my desktop. Im useing a netgear router. my desk top is connected to the router and the cable modem. I have shared the printer through my desk top but my laptop still can not find my printer. can somone please help me. my desktop is running XP but my laptop is running Vista, does that make a diffence?

you will get all the information to setup the printer to get access by both your desktop computer and the laptop.

I did all that and it still cant see my printer. does it have to do with the fire wall?
