Yahoo activation code

Hello,
So I swapped phones with my son.
I'm trying to log in to my yahoo account. I know the email address and passwords. When I try log in I enter my yahoo email address. Then it's says actation code sent. It gets me to confirm to numbers in my number. Which I do but I don't receive an activation code. It will accept my gmail address and logs me in to Gmail?? Please if u can help
