My video files win't open by any media due to a software download

I downloaded an idm files from illegal sources and when i installed it, it changed my video files and i cn't open it through any media. There's a read me file which says if i do according to a particular site and pay them it'll only encrypt the decrypt file. I now know it's a virus of some kind, what to do?? Please help

Firstly install antivirus in your system and then scan your computer so it will remove the virus and then you can open it easily.
