based on my experience there some step you need to do...
1.download the driver from compaq support and center
2.install the driver
3.on my pc it's does not make any effects
4.choose device manager and try to update driver manually
5.you can find on your system(for me in c://)compaq create a folder renamed swsetup
6.inside this folder maybe you can find what you need...
it work's for me but maybe we had a different specification..

The driver on the HP site doesn't work,,, here is the correct driver from the Broadcom site https://www.broadcom.com/support/download-search?pf=Ethernet+Controllers

It worked for me, the driver in swsetup needed in for 440x = x stands for any last number in 440 series.
Due to LY's Broadcom.com 4401 comment I know it was 4401 and it worked!
