With the motherboard video connected, and not the graphics card, go into the BIOS and change the video output setting to PCI or PEG. Save settings and exit.
Next, power off. DIsconnect the motherboard VGA cable and plug the HDMI cable into the graphics card and the monitor.
Open the monitor menu options and change the input type to HDMI.
Power on the system. If there is not a problem with the graphics card you should have video output. If you do not, then that card is no good OR your HDMI cable is no good. Try a different HDMI cable.
