Hi,
I suggest you try changing the visual effects of Windows related to thumbnails. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > Advanced system settings.
Select the Advanced tab, then in "Performance", click Settings. Now in Visual Effects, check Show thumbnails instead of icons and apply.
If the option is already enabled, disable it, apply and enable it again.

It doesn't. I already alluded to that setting. If I wanted to see desktop icons, I would have set it that way already. The problem is that the "geniuses" responsible for the latest "retrograde upgrade" (presumably) have not anticipated (or perhaps, just ignored) the consequences of linking the state of previews to Windows.
