hi,
make sure that you press the switch correctly when trying to open it.
in some laptops, there are two switches, one to open/close the lid and the other to lock the lid.
check if you have this type of laptop switches.

It is trying to open but is closes in a second? Or it's not happening anything? Can you give more details?
