Missing low sound

Hello,

My computer has recently lost low wave sound (i.e. its making everything sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks). The sound has been lost across the whole use of my computer and is also effecting head phones as well as my standard speaker. including using the internet and offline software. I think this may be cause by some form of virus. Any help on how to solve this problem (driver re installation, settings adjustment) would be appreciated.
