  • Solution 1 : by default the sound volume starts at 0 level so when you start any video increase volume manually..
  • Solution 2 : This is what worked for me in Google Chrome : Start playing a video in youtube, then click on on the sound button in the bottom right hand side of the? computer screen. Then click on 'mixer' if you have Vista. You will see a new sound bar in there for youtube flash videos. Make sure it is not on zero. By default it was on zero on my computer even though rest of the sounds were on high. That fixed the problem in Chrome.
This is it! This solved my problem! Can't believe it is this simple...
#2 Solved my problem thanks Nilesh07!
Nilesh07, your solution #2 worked perfectly for me!

I use FF and yesterday all of a sudden I lost all sound through my speakers in FF, but yet I could hear sound just fine via headphones in FF and through my speakers on IE. Followed your directions and sure enough, anything I tried listening to in FF was set at zero while everything else was set on high.

I spent at least 2 hours this morning trying to find a fix for this and I can't believe it was as simple as the issue being with the volume mixer. Even more baffling is how it just happened all of a sudden like it did.

By anyways, thank YOU so very much!
