No sound from web browser Solved/Closed

Question

Hello,

okay, it just happened today, the sound from my pc works fine; I can hear my music, videos, etc.

but when it comes to browsing on the internet, there is no sound! I go to youtube to watch a few vids and no sound! ive reinstalled my browser numerous times, and even downloaded a sound software. nothing!

any ideas?System Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.0.1

Solution 1 : by default the sound volume starts at 0 level so when you start any video increase volume manually..
 Solution 2 : This is what worked for me in Google Chrome : Start playing a video in youtube, then click on on the sound button in the bottom right hand side of the? computer screen. Then click on 'mixer' if you have Vista. You will see a new sound bar in there for youtube flash videos. Make sure it is not on zero. By default it was on zero on my computer even though rest of the sounds were on high. That fixed the problem in Chrome.

I had the same problem. Tried everything suggested by different postings. Nothing worked. I downloaded Firefox and use it now. The problem is solved. It looks like a glitch in the IE (I tried v. 6 and 7)

found the answer and believe me I tried everything all over the web... it's an easy fix .. just go to www.movenetworks.com/install-move-player and download the move media player and you will instantly have sound again in firefox. Do it now--THIS WORKS!!!  btw I have windows xp in desktop and vista on my laptop. Yippie!

None of those solutions helped me but I fixed it, I pluged in my speaker connector to another slot , I have 6 slots and it worked :)

I had this problem also. Soulution was found at Microsoft. Frequently sound card driver is outdated when Vista Service pack 1 is installed. You need to reinstall the sound card driver. complete instructions can be found at" How to troubleshoot sound problems that you experience after you install windows vista Service Pack 1" at support.microsoft.com. OKAY GUYS HERE'S THE FIX ... I know many of you probably found and tried that wave mapper trick and it didn't work .. well so did I ... but I happened back to the page and tried what our friend suggested at the end of his blog...  and let me tell you the sound was back immediately
FYI- I did search for the msacm32.drv   on my drive but it wasn't to be found so I copied it from another computer and pasted it into my system 32 folder and oh man! instantaneously....I heard that windows sound... clidked over to youtube and bingo bango.. oh yeah baby! FOR YOUR LISTENING ENJOYMENT....THIS WORKS!

Also ensure and verify that the msacm32.drv driver file is existing in C:\Windows\System32 folder. If the file is missing in that location, search for other copy of msacm32.drv in the computer, or copy that file from another system.

Hi all was usefull but I dont know if it helped. Or if that was my problem I found that the flash player works on your (1) main speaker jack out and I didn't have mine in  that one I had it in the second one and my headphones on the third jack port. So if that helps you rock on.

I had the same problem, but it ended up being a virus I removed and then it changed the permissions in the registry for:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
\Drivers32 

I took off all of the restrictions (right-click > permissions), restarted, and it worked like a champ!

fixed!

i know this is really strange but all I did was plug some headphones in and I could hear fine through them. unplugged them and the sound worked instantly! might not work for everyone but this has been pissing me off for days

It's simple if you guys have download MAGIC JACK then thats the problem.Try this first unplug your magic jack.After that go to user accounts in control panel then create a new account name it anything u want.After that go to the new account then U can hear music and soun in any videos now .NOTE:pls dont install magic jack on the new account .If u install it again just Make another account

Here are a suggestion that can be usefull:

Open Your Control Panel
The easiest way to open the Control Panel is to click on "Start" and then click on "Control Panel."
Open the Internet Options
Double click on "Internet Options" to open that section of the Control Panel.
Select the "Advanced" Tab
The Advanced Tab is usually on the far-right side of the Internet Options screen.
Scroll Down to Multimedia
Scroll through the options until you see the section called "Multimedia."
Deselect the Play Sounds Option
Click to check the option called "Play Sounds in Webpages." This will turn on all sounds in your internet browsers.

After trying everything in the forums, I found out that it was my sound device software that was configured to hear just with headphones... :/ My computer has C-Media Mixer, and my colegue left the option "using Xear 3D" on...

The strange thing is that windows media player was running perfectly, I could hear sound from the columns, but not the rest of the programs including windows sounds.

It's still bugging me cause I don´t know why I could hear windows media player files and not flash player...
It has something to do with what Katiehappylicious said, but I still don't understand... 

anyway... it helped, and my problem is solved

I added another sound device (Linksys skype cordless phone) to my computer.  All the sound devices changed to be using this instead of my default speakers.  
Solution:
Open Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices > Audio > Defaut Device change to you original sound device

Re-open Web browser and let the good times roll again....

I had this issue and I run vista.
I used the system restore  - worked great and no messing with the registry.

try this out bud... go to Start/Run/  type in "regedit" (without the quotes).....
 
click on:
              Hkey_localmachine/software/microsoft/windowsNT/Drivers32.......   you should have a string named wavemapper.... if you don't, on the left pane where it says drivers32: right click/permissions/advanced .........on all the ones that say Deny instead of Allow, highlight the name and click edit... then under the heading Allow check the full control box ....after checking all those you should have wavemapper as a string name in the right pane along with a bunch of new names as well......go to youtube and give it a shot

Same thing happened to me .I realised after trying everything suggested on the net that it was my default audio device that was the issue.
To check that go to Media Player,Tools-options-Devices tab-highight speaker then click on properties, audio device should be default direct sound device.Click on advance, and a pop up box should appear with the settings of your default device. This is the tricky part you will need to know your default device, mine on my dell is called sigmatel but bluetooth kept appearing there.If a different device is appearing there u can change it from the AUDIO tab on the same pop-up. Funny thing is it changes itself and I am not sure whats causing that.
