Help me please, my files have gone!!

Hello,

I turned on my computer today and found a blank box. Nothing else, just a blank box. I clicked the box, to try and get rid of it and it did the noise that sounded like something had an error and shut down my computer. Worried, I turned the computer back on, it loaded fine but all my files were gone! Nothing else was there! What should I do?

Please help!
