Desparately need advice

Hello,
I have a 64 bit HP laptop purchased in April of this year (2009). Cannot get active x adobe flash to download. When I went to the macromed directory to open the flash directory as stated in a post on this site...I have no flash directory. When the macromed file is opened there is nothing there. Please please help me!!!
