Black screen with movable cursor

Hello,
i was trying to copy a disk when my screen turned black although few days ago i had and error report of files missing files or files that could not be loaded from the registry. i have tried using the sticky keys centre but whenever i restart my system i still have the black screen. My system is using windows vista business operating system.
