Why i can't connect two pc.

Hello,
i want to connect two pc with crossover cable. I have two pc with windows XP both have network card installed. I have crimped crossover cable as per color code rules. Both pc have same work group. IP is : 192.168.1.5 & subnet mask is: 255.255.255.0 IP of second pc is IP: 192.168.1.6 ans same subnet.

color code of cable is:
(1) brown & brown-white / Green & Blue-white / Blue & Green-white / Orange & Orange-white
(2) brown & brown-white / Orange & Blue-white / Blue & Oange-white / Green & Green-white

now please please please tell me where i am wrong. I ahve also tried to set network card speed to 10 base half duplex.

hi there,

try this for the cross cable:

One end
RJ45 Male Other end
RJ45 Male
1 3
2 6
3 1
4 * 5 *
5 * 4 *
6 2
7 * 8 *
8 * 7 *


the * marked should be cross connected

example pin 4 in other end is connected to 5
