How to creating LAN on 2 pc using 2 windows

Hello,
I am using windows 7 and windows vista on my 2 pc. I can't connect 2 pc through LAN. How can I connect?

First, you use a cable to connect 2 PC. Then, you configure IP address for 2 PC. At last, you use "ping" to check network through.
