How do network 2 computers in the same room

Hello,
I am buying a new touchscreen computer with Windows 7. I want to move my present computer to another space in my same room. I have a wireless laptop already networked to this computer. Using Windows XP. It is located in another room. How can I network my new computer with the one that I am moving.? I have AT&T DSL2 WIRE modem.

both computers will communicate and see each other, if you can see the other laptop then all you have to do is to make a file sharing so that you can access the file and copy it to the new machine.

simple but useful tool to see if you can communicate with the other pc...
check the ip address of both pc's and try to ping if the other pc will reply.

(goto run and type ex: ping 192.168.1.1)
