Hooking up old home pc to new lap top

Hello, im stuck need help!!
I have a home computer thats very old but runs good but has all my songs on it and its not hooked up to the internet the lap top is with an usb wireless card i want to transfer all the music to the lap top i have 13000 songs and alot of pictures also i bought a cable like an either net cable but when i connected it nothing happened please advise how to transfer all the music thnxs.
