Hello, I need help figuring out which of my pc's hardware is not working
so here is the situation/ my pc boots it goes through bios it loads windows
but after a few minutes the screen goes blank and its not the monitor
because I checked with another comp and it works fine. after I hold the
power to turn off the computer it turns off when I go to turn it back
on it turn on but after I turn it on the 2nd 3rd 4th...... it takes less time
for the monitor to go blank.

so if anybody can please tell or give me an idea of which of the hardware on
my comp is failing I would appreciate it a lot! thanks

comp: motherboard=Asus A8V-X
cpu=opteron 180 x2 2.4ghz
agp GC=HIS Radeon hd 3850 512mb
RAM=3x 512mb cosiar
sata hdd and dvd rw ect.
750 watt power supply unit

P.S. when i go to bios set up the cpu is at 29%C so is not overheating.

HI misael,
Since u have double checked ur monitor we are dead sure that is g=has nothing to doe with the problem

that leaves us with 2 other possibilities

1> either ur display settings have changed
2> Ur VGA card is havinga a problem

the first problem arises whe a new program or game or site visited that has been recently been installed / visited changes ur display settings

firstly have u tried to start ur system in normal mode??

if not then pls do (during start up keep the F key pressed till the dos screen appears where u select the safe mode option)

now right click on ur desktop>properties>

click the settings tab

check if the setting is "1024 by 768 pixels"

if no then reset it to the value by sliding the bar pointer

click apply then ok

restart ur sytem but now in normal mode

if u still have prob then pls get ur VGA card checked as it might need to be replaced or upgraded

Well I think is possible that is my vga card because I try to reinstall window on a new hard drive and it doe the same thing or is it possible it could be the motherboard or the psu.

so what do u think so I can return the vga card if it is that.

thanks for the answer that gets me an idea of what to do next.

I'm going to buy crappy AGP card from micro center and check if the vga is the on giving me problems.

and thanks again.

Ill get back as soon as I find out if is that or not.
