New sony vaio w/win7 wireless conn. probs

Hello,
can anyone please help me????????????
bought daughter sony vaio model#PCG-7184L with Windows 7 for Christmas, it's Jan 2 and cannot yet connect to the internet through my 2Wire wireless router box with which I have 3 other laptops hooked to. I contacted Best Buy where puter purchased at online telling him that I have tried going through `manage wireless networks' double clicking on 2wire tab (my modem) click security tab and for security type: 802.1X and Encryption type: WEP choosing every variation after that and the 2Wire router still shows excellent signal strength yet will not connect. I am befuddled, could any help? PLEASE!

Some older wireless routers may need a firmware update to work with Vista or Windows 7. Check to 2wire web site to see if this is the case.
