Lost photos and videos

Hello,
I recentley broke my sony ericsson phone but reteived the M2 memory card which has photos and videos on it. So I decided to put the photos on my laptop. I put the M2 memory card into the Sandisk m2 ADAPTER and inserted it in to the laptop I then click the recomended option of scaning the card and now I have no photo or videos on there, but I have a lot of computer jergon (letters and numbers) can someone please please help me, as I have photo's of family members that have passed away....... Thank you!
