Windows XP does not have software to read some SATA hard drives. The only way around this is to download and "slipstream" the drivers into a modified Windows install CD. Only very advanced PC users have and chance of getting this to work. You will also find that Windows XP does not have device driverws for the hardware on your motherboard and any special keys on the keyboard of late model laptops.
