No desktop items

if no desktop items show, just your wallpaper, this is what i do. Ctrl+Alt+Del, new task, browse, my network, and then double click on entire network and then you can see your items again. the only problem i have now is that i have to do that everytime i turn on my computer. anybody know how i can get it back to normal so i can turn on my computer and my desktop items are there already???
