Please, could you tell me, without any indiscretion what specifically you have downloaded ? Are the shut downs happening only when you try to run the application?
I may be able to help further but we need to know more about what is going on in the system.
Please download and install Hyjackthis on this site :
http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/
From the main menu page click scan and log. Once the scan is over, the log will open. Please copy it and paste here.
I will be then able to tell you what help I can provide, if not other member contributors will.
