Hello,
I have an RCA modem from time warner on one desktop and I'm interested in connecting another desktop using the same connection. I purchased a "D-link wireless n usb adapter" with no luck connecting in my home, however when I look at available wireless connections, I notice that there are several available connections in my area. - of course all private. Could you please let me know what I did wrong and if I need to purchase (in addition to the "D-link wireless n usb adapter") a wireless router?

Thank you kindly
Ty

Yes you need your own wireless router. You connect it to your RCA modem - then connect you current desktop by wire to the router - run the set-up software - enter a SSID (network name) and an encryption keyword for the router. Then select the SSID on the 2nd desktop and enter the keyword.

Good Luck
