It might be a defective hard drive - after 8/9 years of use. Replacing the hard drive will require re-installing Windows and all other software. It would have been a wise idea to buy a software package that made a backup image of your hard drive. Then you could have just loaded the image on a new hard drive.
Some of the data may still be readable on the existing hard drive if you are lucky. You could install it as a secondary ( D drive) after you load Windows on the new C drive.
