Pc got dropped and need to transfer files

Hello,
ok this sounds horrible but my hp got dropped and in some bad shape, I tried turning it on and it starts but cant see anything on the monitor. my question is, is there a way you can transfer everything to a back up old computer and save all the music, pics, games etc? the broken one is vista and my old one is running xp. I read you can plug it into an external but how can you see what needs to be moved when it wont show anything? or is it even possible to save everything?

You can get a USB drive enclosure that converts the laptop hard drive into a portable drive. You then just plug it in to the other computer's USB port. That assumes the hard drive is still usable after the fall.
