How to enable graphic features

Hello,
I am new to Linux. I have installed Ubuntu 8.04 on my PC. Can u please tell me how to enable the latest graphic features like.. the desktop effects and animation effects on my desktop.... Plzz brother.. can u answer this question... I have the Intel default chipset 945 graphic media accelerator.. Is it ok ??
