Download dialog box but no download

Hello,
got my laptop formatted. i am using google chrome browser since i have an older verison of IE. Kaspersky antivirus is installed.
but whn i try to download anything like skype or mozilla firefox etc, a dialog box appears but no estimated time left no transfer rate is sjown(it is blank) and i c a globe carrying paper from left to a folder to right.
initally evrything was working fine. got all downloads. tried all the remedies in the forum but none worked.help pls.
