Windows XP does not have the required driver for the SATA controller in your laptop. You should Google "slipstream" and 'Nlite' the process used to modify the Windows CD. BUT, you will find the Compaq/HP does not support XP on this laptop and you will not find XP drivers for any of the hardware on the motherboard. I suggest you buy a copy of Windows 7 and install it.
