Connect 2 PCs with cat5

i am completely new to nteworking
i want to connect my desktop PC and My laptop with a DSL Modem using only cat5 cable.
can i know the step to step procedure in doing this that is how to set up the cable and all.
also if i would get to know how to configure the system after cabling.

Please if i can know this ASAP
