Msn Conversation Window

Hi, When i open windows live messenger/msn, everything is fine, but when i try and talk to someone i cant see their conversation window, yet i still recieve an alert that they are talking to me. Please help.

Normally the window is above the box where you type your message. Please indicate which edition you are using so that we can provide you appropriate help.
