Have internet connection, but no skype

I have internet access through wireless and cable, but can't use skype, messenger, download updates on my antivirus...and when i try to do that I get a message saying that i do not have connection to internet...don't understand...i turn my firewall off and nothing...i even tried to update my spyware and nothing...any suggestions

but you can connect to the internet and view pages right?.. sound like your wireless system is not properly set up. try redoing that first, and see where it takes you,,
