How to connect a lapi and a comp to play?

i want to connect a laptop and a coputer to play the game empire earth....i have a wireless router which i use to connect to the internet....i have the router but i dont know how to connect both the computers even though there are options of the lan on the router....i dont want to connect both of them to the internet but i just want to connect them to each other so that i can play....
