Screen fades out

my pc intermittently decides(usually upon waking it up) that the screen is going to fade out...looks like the screen is going bad, but sometimes i can touch the mouse pad and it brings it bakc to normal and sometimes i need to restart the pc....already tried taking battery out and removing static electricty and tried adjusting sleep and power mode....PLEASE HELP.

it turns out that the problem was that the LCD video cable behind the monitor had partially broken cables. replacing the cable was a sure fix. opening and closing the laptop for three years worked a weak place in the wires.
